Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
Yukito asks if Sakura had sweet dreams. Touya says probably not since he heard loud groans all the way in his room, like some kind of monster.
Tori apologizes for being late, saying "The Squirt was having a very deep conversation." Julian: "Is he giving you a hard time again?" SaKUra: "As usual". Tori: "She's 10 years old and still talks to imaginary friends. Pretty pathetic, don't you think?"
yeah, Tori's petty comments are pretty pathetic
Sakura says it wasn't scary, just strange.
Julian: "Are you feeling okay?" SaKUra:"Yeah, but I had a strange dream."
at least they kept Yukito's concern for Sakura

Yukito says there are such things as fortune-telling dreams, and Sakura thinks to herself that that is exactly what Kero-chan said.
"Dreams can tell you what you least expect."
another note for the Yukito Connection?
"I also had a fortuntelling-dream last night. I dreamt I had fish for breakfast, and then I did and I was so happy I had 6 bowls of rice!"
"I also had a dream like that. I dreamt I had french toast for breakfast, and then I did, ha ha ha."
okay, I understand changing 'fish' to 'french toast', but what makes it funny (and the reason Sakura stumbles) is because Yukito ate *so much* - which is totally lost in the English dub.

"You're in a good mood today, Sakura-chan."
Madison talks about the new digital video camera her mom got.
"I was with Yukito-san all the way to school ...
"And chrominance reduction is a good thing?" "It cuts down on the noise, and we are noisy."
again with the dialog changes!

"and I got this too."

"Mata ne, Sakura-chan"
hope you enjoy those commercials, because this is what you could have been seeing instead

"Tsukishiro-san always has food with him. It's good because it means he's healthy."

Rika-chan enters the classroom, followed by Terada-sensei. Everyone takes their seats as he does a roll check for homeroom.

Rika-chan smiles sweetly at Terada-sensei, but it makes him embarassed. I guess little girls don't get crushes on their teachers in English because this part is completely gone from CC.

Sakura is clueless.
Sakura *is* clueless sometimes.

"Today we have a new transfer student ..."
... Li Showron."
Li is actually his last name, BTW.
"It's an unusual time of year to have a new student."

Terada-sensei writes the new student's name on the chalkboard.

Li-kun glares at Sakura

SaKUra: "That's him .. from my dream."
another unecessary voice over. slience is good - it helps build tension and suspense. Hitchock & CLAMP understand this. CC also adds a transition of the dream water effect, just in case you missed the point in the audio.
"Hoe?"
"Sakura-chan, are you being stared at?"

"Li Shaoran. He's from Hong Kong. The seat behind Kinomoto is free."
"Please welcome Li to Reedington Elementary. Why don't you sit behind SaKUra."
cool to see Li's name on the board, isn't it? the chalkboard is completely blank in CC.

Tomoyo shows Li his seat, but he snubs her.
"For some reason, I feel a really heated gaze."
"What's with the new kid? Talk about intense. What does he want from me?"

All through the day, Sakura doesn't understand why Li stares at her - she only met him for the first time today!

did you get a snack during the commerical break? there was lots of time to, wasn't there?

Tomoeda Elementary School
Reedington Elementary School
they kept the establishing shot so you'd remember where you were after the commerical break.

During a break, a worn-out Sakura walks down the stairs ...

until Li comes up behinds her and stops her.

this is one of my favorite scenes!

Note #1 - Tomoyo calls Yukito "Tsukishiro-san" because she does not have as close a relationship with him as Sakura does, which is why Sakura calls him "Yukito-san". Touya and Yukito have a closer friendship, that is also determined by the fact they are both male, and about the same age, so Touya uses the nickname "Yuki".
Go Back.

Note #2 - In Japan, the students stay in the same classroom and the teachers come and go, compared to America, where the teachers stay in their classroom and the students come and go.
